Cabernet vs. Brunello
Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the world’s most popular and well-known red grape variety. It is the main grape in the world famous wines of Bordeaux, and the wine that made the Napa Valley famous. Tonight it’s up against a Power House of Italy – Brunello di Montalcino, which is the prestigious DOCG made from the Sangiovese grape; Sangiovese literally means “blood of Jove” (Sanguis Jovis), “Jove” being the Roman god Jupiter. In a country growing thousands of different grapes, Sangiovese reigns as the number one grape varietal in Italy, where it accounts for 10% of the entire wine grape crop.
